Calcutta Rescue is a non-governmental organisation operating in Kolkata and rural West Bengal which aims to improve the health and quality of life of socially disadvantaged populations. Calcutta Rescue fights poverty, ignorance and apathy, offering free holistic health care and education for those who need it most.

History:

Calcutta Rescue has come about through the efforts of Dr. Jack Preger who first started offering free medical treatment to the poor from a pavement clinic on Middleton Row, Kolkata, in 1979. The Profile of the work increased along with the support of international media and several support Groups and Charities without whom Calcutta Rescue would not stand today.

Our Programmes

We address all aspects of the lives of those who come to us. Therefore we offer not only curative healthcare (e.g. drugs or surgery) but also provide food and financial benefits, education, and vocational and practical training. Coordination with other private sector organizations, local government bodies, and international and national NGOs ensures the best in service for beneficiaries.
