history

The organisation has evolved from a pavement clinic in Middleton Row when British Dr. Jack Preger, MBE, first started offering free medical treatment to the poor of Calcutta in 1979.

Dr. Jack’s efforts attracted the attention of many western travellers who stopped by to help. Quickly, this roadside clinic grew to serve thousands to Kolkata's poorest citizens.  Many of these volunteers decided that, although they could not stay to help Dr. Jack, they could continue to support his work at home by raising awareness and funds – thus the overseas Support Groups came into existence.

We now have a number of Support Groups in worldwide - please find out more about how to contact your nearest Support Group here.
