mission statement

Calcutta Rescue’s vision is to undertake charitable and development work for the benefit of the underprivileged of Kolkata and West Bengal, providing health care, education, medical services and vocational training.

CR aims always to provide these on a charitable basis but also on a developmental basis, wherever possible. CR prioritises projects on a needs basis, taking into account the relevant social, political, economic and administrative situation in Kolkata/West Bengal.

CR aims to achieve its vision in co-operation with the services offered by the Government and other NGOs whenever possible and appropriate.

In accordance with our purpose and objectives set down in the Memorandum of Association in April 1991, CR seeks to achieve the following objectives with particular emphasis on the needs of those most disadvantaged:

  • To improve levels of health
  • To improve levels of education
  • To improve income or employment opportunities
  • To increase participation of marginalized people in society

Where CR needs to make difficult choices in allocating limited resources, we weigh up the degree of need and potential benefits to the disadvantaged. We focus our work in areas where it is feasible to evaluate the services that we offer and thus achieve the results that we aim for, even when the need may be greater in other areas. Our project level of involvement is directly linked to our budget for the year.
