At present, Calcutta Rescue's educational programme assists some 500 pupils, of which 160 are younger non-formal students, preparing them for regular school; while we sponsor some 350 formal students who attend mainstream government or private schools. Within the next five years we expect the number of students to double to in excess of 1,000.

CR covers most of the costs of putting a child through schooling - these include two meals a day, school uniform, books, umbrellas, school bags, a travel allowance, as well as attendance, boarding/hostel and tuition fees.  

However, as our school programme has grown, our facilities have rapidly become inadequate.  Both of our schools are at full capacity, with overcrowding threatening to diminish the quality of education that we are capable of delivering.

We require a new or refurbished building with ten classrooms and supporting facilities.  This building will become the core of CR's education programme and allow it to grow and prosper.

We estimate the cost of this new school building at between Rs.40,00,000 (€60,500) to Rs.60,00,000 (€90,500).  A major donor is necessary to begin fundraising for the building.

The major donor will be given the opportunity to name the school.
