As we all know, child educational sponsorship is often high profile on many charity websites – statistics show that this area of sponsorship is the most lucrative. Cute little faces, big and sad eyes, ragged clothes … this image appears again and again. And the money pours in ….
Whilst we are desperately keen to access as much funding as possible for our CR students, we feel uncomfortable about 'advertising' our children in a 'meat market' fashion. The smallest and the sweetest ones get picked for sponsorship immediately; those with less appealing physical good looks are sidelined. Is it appropriate to single out one child for special treatment? It can alienate them from their own siblings, cause great jealousy and can even result in child peer victimisation. Therefore, we suggest you sponsor the cost of one child’s education but your contact is with the class group as a whole. If you wish, you may specify which class you would like to sponsor.
Should you require any further information, we are always happy to be in email contact with you, email educationalist@calcuttarescue.org
You may disagree with the foregoing; you may want to sponsor a particular child – and we do, of course, respect your wish and are willing to implement an individual child sponsorship. However, to be fair to the child, we would very much appreciate a long-term commitment to secure the child’s future.
To keep expenses to a minimum and use our funds most effectively for the benefit of those we educate, a simple 'no frills' sponsorship scheme is our preferred option. This keeps administrative costs down, gives the children no pressure and benefits the programme as a whole.
