Calcutta Rescue’s present transport system for school children and their adult escorts is by hired school van. This collects from 12 different slum/pavement areas of North Calcutta and brings our students to our two schools. Hired transport is also used for school outings and special events (visits to the zoo, museums, etc) and costs approximately Rs. 300,000 (€4550) per year.
CR is seeking funding for a new school bus. It will provide significant savings on recurring expenses, such savings to be used for the continuing improvement of educational standards. A CR owned and managed school bus can be utilized for all sorts of flexible activity related school trips - attending celebrations, cultural functions, invitations from the government/NGOs, etc. On a lighter note, it can also be used for fun-related pupil excursions, picnics, etc. – an important part of every child’s life, particularly those with deprived home circumstances.
