Calcutta Rescue’s Tala Park Clinic, the largest of its four Clinics, is situated on Tara Sankar Sarani in North Kolkata. The Clinic, started there on the 18th August 1995, also houses the Tala Park School and was originally a waste area on which CR has been given permission to erect a single storey temporary structure. It faces the open green space of the park itself, where some of the patients and students live under plastic sheeted structures. The area is an interesting socio-economic mix - smart apartment blocks sit comfortably alongside bustee settlements.
The Clinic caters to approximately 120 patients per day, 6 days per week. A team of doctors along with nurses, midwives, pharmacists and suitably trained paramedics ensure quality medical and social initiatives for those for whom we care. Our wide range of services includes:
- Treatment for special categories of patients, e.g. cancer, thalassaemia, neurological conditions, tuberculosis, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, thyroid conditions and HIV.
- A strong emphasis is placed on health education, with education sessions given according to the needs of the patients.
- A physiotherapist – for children as well as adults - is available at the Clinic on a regular basis.
- A Mother and Child Health (MCH) programme provides antenatal and post-natal care, special feeding program for malnourished babies, as well as important health education on family planning. In addition, there are regular check-ups for mother and child.
